Daddy's Surprise Birthday cum Graduation Party

We don't usually celebrate Nig's birthday with a party - just family dinner - but since he's finally received his diploma, we planned a surprised combined party for him. Firstly, on Friday, I got him to remove the car (which got bang the last time) out from the porch and to fix up the canopy, with the excuse that I wanted to let the girls play and run around in the porch.

Janae was helping to sweep the porch while Emma caught sight of the empty box

Janae's new 'swing' and Emma was just contented with playing with water
He wasn't suspicious of anything until he saw the maid bringing out the serving plates and stuff to wash. I told him I don't know what she's up too. He got a bit more suspicious when I insisted that we went out that afternoon. We took the girls shopping and I surprised all 3 of them with movie passes. While we were out, Ah Mah marinated the meats for BBQ for the next day. She finished marinating before we came home.
We went shopping while Ah Mah prepared the food for the party the next day
When we got home, he didn't get any surprise and we didn't say anything. So on Saturday afternoon, we went over to the Lims whereby the guys went to collect some stuff and hang out for guys' time together. After they left, Adel drove us (the kiddos and us ladies) back to our house to get ready for the party. We got the food ready, set up the BBQ pit and waited for everyone to arrive. The only hiccup to the plan was that the guys arrived at our house just as all the other guests arrived - Nig was a bit shocked to see the other cars around and was already laughing...so we didn't manage to shout "SURPRISE" to him...
Birthday Boy just arrived
We started the BBQ.

When everyone was done eating, we proceeded with our next programme. He was presented with a home-made mortar board.
Next was a special presentation by Janae. She played "Happy Birthday" for daddy on the electone. She practiced playing the song for one week and every time when she practiced, I had to remind her it's a surprise present for daddy - to make sure she doesn't blurt it out to him.

Next, Nig was presented with a "fake" cert.

Finally his last surprise....
Opening his final surprise

A surprise because his cert was actually with his coursemate - got the coursemate's number from his phone and made arrangement for his cert to be couriered to us before the party...

As our friends left the house, I bathed both girls and put Emma to sleep. Janae went back down to have her last round of fun.

We finally called it a night.

First and foremost our utmost praise and thanks to God for seeing our family through Nig's part-time studies. Thanks Ah Kong, Ah Mah, Nick Tua Pek, Tracie Kor Kor, Sal Ee Ee, Uncle Dan, Auntie Adel, Uncle Alvin, Uncle David, Auntie Liz, Sol, Nat and Abby for all the help you guys provided in planning the surprise party. Definitely couldn't have done it without everyone's help. And thanks for sharing this happy moment with us :)

Ah Mah's Birthday at Chalet, Equatorial

We celebrated Ah Mah's birthday at Chalet, Equatorial. We were there early and so the girls were posing for photos.

Some of the dishes we ordered...

During dinner, I noticed that the waiters were busy serving all the other tables. There was a couple sitting behind us, the waiter brought out some utensils and left it by their table and then it seemed as though they've completely forgotten about them. Finally after serving everyone else their orders, they came back to this couple and started a performance. Most of the waiters we saw were taking turn to sing and dance, using the utensils they brought out earlier. That sure explained why they had to serve all the other guests first! Have been there a couple of times and this is the first time I saw this performance. Was really entertaining.

Finally after finishing our meal, they brought in a birthday cake for Ah Mah and sang her the Birthday Song.

Emma helped blew the candle and wanted to cut the cake too.

Faces of Mischief

The title says it all....don't even remember some of these things they did, till I saw the pictures again...
"Caught" them drawing on the table. Was deciding whether to scold or not too - decided not to since it's their work table

Wanted to try making shakers with the egg shells - they decided to draw/colour the egg shell instead

Taking photo with my phone

Since we didn't allow her to use the real camera, she went for the camera bag instead..

So studious

Janae couldn't resist and joined in, even though she hasn't finished her practise

Making faces

Love this!
